Plagiarism Policy
The ALCOM: Journal of Algorithm and Computing is committed to upholding the highest standards of academic integrity and ethical publishing. To maintain the credibility of the journal and the trust of our readers, authors, and reviewers, ALCOM has a zero-tolerance policy for plagiarism.
1. Definition of Plagiarism
Plagiarism is the unethical practice of using another individual’s work, ideas, or words without proper acknowledgment or permission. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Copying text, figures, or data from other sources without citation.
- Paraphrasing substantial portions of another’s work without credit.
- Claiming ownership of research or ideas that originated from others.
2. Plagiarism Detection
To ensure originality, all submissions to ALCOM are screened using advanced plagiarism detection software (e.g., Turnitin, iThenticate, or similar tools). Any manuscript found to contain significant similarities with existing works will be subject to further review and investigation.
3. Types of Plagiarism
The following are considered forms of plagiarism and are strictly prohibited:
- Direct Plagiarism: Verbatim copying of text without proper citation.
- Self-Plagiarism: Reusing significant portions of an author’s previously published work without proper attribution or justification.
- Mosaic Plagiarism: Interweaving phrases or ideas from various sources without proper acknowledgment.
- Accidental Plagiarism: Failing to cite sources correctly, even unintentionally.
4. Actions Against Plagiarism
If plagiarism is detected at any stage of the publication process, the following actions will be taken based on the severity of the case:
- Before Acceptance: The manuscript will be rejected immediately.
- After Publication: The article will be retracted, and a notice of retraction will be issued on the journal’s website.
- Notification: Authors, their institutions, and funding bodies may be informed of the ethical breach.
5. Author Responsibility
Authors are responsible for ensuring the originality of their work and appropriately citing all sources. Submitting a manuscript to ALCOM implies that the work is original and has not been published or submitted elsewhere.
6. Reviewer and Editor Role
Reviewers and editors play a critical role in identifying potential plagiarism. Any suspected cases reported during the review process will be investigated thoroughly.
7. Appeals
Authors may appeal decisions related to plagiarism by providing a detailed explanation and supporting evidence. Appeals will be reviewed by the editorial board, whose decision will be final.
8. Education and Prevention
ALCOM actively promotes awareness of ethical writing and publishing practices to authors, reviewers, and editors to minimize plagiarism and foster a culture of academic honesty.
